Canned 07/22/20

Appearance - Pours semi-hazy and yellowish-gold in color, with an off-white, near finger width head. Fair retention before settling to thin, broken layer of suds and a thin ring around the edge of the glass. Not much for lacing, save a few broken lines and a handful of small spots.

Smell - Getting overripe citrus aroma; think orange and grapefruit that have a touch of natural ferment after a few days having fallen off the branch. Some white bread and a trace of caramel.

Taste - Follows the nose. Citrusy, slightly sweet and slightly boozy. Overripe orange sets the stage, then hints of bread and caramel. Touch of grapefruit and a bit of alcohol come through in the finish,

Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with low-to-fair carbonation. Smooth, and while not quite syrupy, it does carry a certain heaviness on the tongue. Semi-dry and with a touch of booze on the finish. Overall, not bad for a 10% TIPA.

Overall - I tried this one on-tap and thought maybe it needed more time to settle; this review out of the can has proven correct in my not thinking otherwise. The aftertaste here is much more cohesive than it's first day of release. I'd still rank this one 3rd out of the 4 from this year's Taste of Royalty, but it's closed the gap on the two front runners vs my initial impression. It's a fine beer regardless of it's comparison to the other special releases.

Sweet, tropical hoppy, hint of sweet orange citrus, and piney dank nose on this one! Fantastic aromatics! Taste follows with a slightly malty, citrus and hoppy bitter finish...the hoppy bitterness is a little muddled and lingers on back of the throat a bit. This feels decent on the palate...good.
