Appearance - Pours black with a tan, half finger's width head that dies quickly, leaving small islands of suds floating around, and a thin ring around the edge of the glass. A handful of tiny spots make up a very minimal lacing.
Smell - Chocolate and whiskey sweetness. Hint of oak.
Taste - Hit first with chocolate and raisin sweetness which holds firm. Mild roastiness. Hints of caramel and vanilla as it approaches the finish. Touch of oak. Aftertaste adds a peppery rye which lingers on the tongue.
Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with low-to-moderate carbonation. Smooth, slick drinker before turning slightly dry and sticky in the finish. Not much booziness, impressive for a 12.5% brew.
Overall - Pretty damn solid and complex BBA imperial, though the Basil Hayden influence is adding a bit more sweetness than I would prefer. As a slow sipper though, it's nice. Very nice.
