Had on-tap at Burning Barrel Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up 10.5 oz into a tulip, opaque and black with cola brown edging where light can penetrate. Small island of suds floats the middle on the surface while a thin ring occupies the edge. A handful of small spots make up a minimal lacing.
Smell - Whiff of booze, then lesser toasted coconut, hint of pecan and underlying fudge.
Taste - Fudgy opening that quickly takes a backseat to dominant toasted coconut. Pecan nuttiness rises mid-taste and resonates between the coconut and base fudge notes. Finish adds a fair, boozy bite. Aftertaste delivers fading coconut, light roast, dark chocolate, booze and a trace of pecan.
Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with low-to-moderate carbonation. Fair sticky, syrupy texture, but drinks smooth for 12.1%.
Overall - Heavy on the toasted coconut, but not overdone to the point that it's way out of balance. I can't help but wonder, though, how great this would aging in a barrel for 12 months.
