Had on-tap at Burning Barrel Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a large tulip / snifter hybrid, opaque and violet in color with a thin, broken layer of suds covering the surface. Lacing consists of some banding, broken lines and small spotting. Also lots of fruit sediment clinging to the glass.
Smell - Really strong on the cheesecake aroma. Lesser banana. Blueberry sits well beneath
Taste - Follows the nose to a degree. Cheesecake and banana hit upfront, and then a bit of off-funk that is likely from the banana.
Mouthfeel - Full bodied with low carbonation. Thick, creamy texture, with a touch of chalk from the fine fruit sediment. Drinks well enough, with a very appropriate "smoothie" finish.
Overall - Like the Baby Umbrella Double Jammer before it, I can't help but think this would be so much better without the banana. It's taken what would be a killer smoothie sour, to "what could have been" status. I hope it's the last time they add banana to any beer, frankly It has been the bane of these last two DJ releases.
