Had on-tap at Burning Barrel Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a Belgian tulip, fairly clear and dark rust in color. Small islands of suds float the center while a thin, consistent ring encircles the edge of the glass. A handful of broken lines and small spotting make up the minimal lacing.
Smell - Toffee, earthen hop, sugar. A hint if dark fruit and some booze.
Taste - Warm, malty and sugary. Toffee that's a touch burnt, fruity fig and then sugary caramel in the finish. Trace of earthen hops in the background; twig and dried leaf. Sugary aftertaste with distant earthen bitterness continuing on.
Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with fair carbonation. Sticky, lightly syrupy texture with a drying finish.
Overall - Some great things going on in this BW, but it's simply too sugary right now for me to love completely. Perhaps a bit young, still? Could probably stand to age for 6 to 12 months to mellow out.
