From tasting notes 8/12/22
Had on-tap at Burning Barrel Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a snifter, black in color with cola brown edging. Near barren surface and no lacing.
Smell - Sweet aroma, with lesser boozy heat sitting beneath. Raisin, molasses, bourbon, oak and lesser vanilla, and chocolate.
Taste - Chocolate covered raisins comes to mind first, then notes of oak and a hint of tobacco develops (as the brew warms). Vanilla. Trace of coconut. Finish brings some honey sweetness and some bourbon sweet/heat, but stays smooth and harmonious in it's flavor profile.
Mouthfeel - Full bodied with low carbonation. Smooth but sticky texture with a dry finish, leaves a bit of a syrupy impression.
Overall - If this had some balancing roast this would be an absolute beast. As it stands it's still amazing, but a bit sweeter than what I'd prefer. Still, the array of flavors that come through and play nicely off each other makes this a truly must try BBA Impy Stout.
