Had on-tap at Burning Barrel Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a Belgian pint, crystal clear and golden orange in color with a thin, broken layer of suds across the surface, thickening into a ring which encircles the edge. Not much for lacing; a few small patches and spotting.
Smell - The aroma hits on equal parts citrus and pine, with underlying dank.
Taste - Starts with pine and dank bitterness, then a fair amount of candied orange brings some balance. Underlying bready sweetness. Finishes with pine and citrus pith, which linger in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied bodied with a nice, carbonated bite. Slick, smooth drinker before a mostly dry finish.
Overall - Simcoe heavy brew, so I didn't think I'd love it, going in, but it's a well made beer that does hit on enough sweetness to keep the pine bitterness from being too prominent. Those who love pine forward IPAs willl love it.
