Had on-tap at Burning Barrel Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a snifter, near black with cola brown edging. Mostly barren surface with a razor thin, broken ring of suds around the edge of the glass. No lacing, but none expected for a BA stout.
Smell - Sweet, sweet whiskey. Booze. Maple. Maybe a hint of berry?
Taste - Where to begin? Four Roses barrel influence is prominent. Lots of whiskey heat and sweetness. Maple syrup is the next most discernible flavor. The PB and Jelly notes are there, but is buried by the barrel and maple. Finish is sweet and hot.
Mouthfeel - Near full in body with low to moderate carbonation. Slightly sticky. Dry, hot finish.
Overall - The Four Roses barrel influence is strong with this one. Definite candidate for aging. As it is now, too much sweet and heat for this cool cat to enjoy.
