Had on-tap at Burning Barrel Breeing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a snifter, opaque and yellow-orange in color, with a thin, broken layer of suds covering the surface. Lacing is minimal with some spotting, while fruit sediment also leaves its mark on the glass.
Smell - Sweet, lightly boozy rum hits the nose first, then creamy banana with lesser pineapple zing and lime tartness.
Taste - Follows the nose. A wonderful dance on the tongue of lightly sweet and spicy rum, while this plays nicely off the mellower, creamy banana. Pineapple and lime come through with tang and zing, giving this some added dimension. About as balanced a finish for such a complex beer as one could ask for.
Mouthfeel - Full in body with bitey carbonation despite a creamy, smoothie-like body. Finish goes a touch dry, though still holds to that creamy impression.
Overall - Really tasty and unique imperial sour. Aging this in rum barrels was definitely the right decision, as it adds so much and compliments the components of the base brew. Very nice!
