Had on-tap at Burning Barrel Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a 10oz tulip, black with deep cola brown edging. An island of suds floats the surface center while a razor thin ring can be found around the edge of the glass. Fair lacing, with broken lines and small spotting.
Smell - A deep, intriguing combination of fudgy chocolate and fresh vanilla bean. Faint aromas of coffee and nuttiness.
Taste - Follows the nose. Deep fudgy chocolate starts it off, met quickly by fresh vanilla goodness. Underlying coffee roast and a fair walnut character round it out as it nears the finish. Aftertaste lingers with the chocolate and vanilla notes maintaining their prominence even as it fades.
Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with low-to-moderate carbonation. Thick, syrupy texture leads to a dry finish. Smooth for a 14.5% behemoth though.
Overall - Tasty, balanced pastry stout. Dangerously delicious at 14.5% ABV. Very, very nice!
