Had on-tap at Burning Barrel Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up 8oz into a snifter, black in color with cola brown edging. Thin, somewhat barren surface with a thin, consistent ring of suds around the edge of the glass. Fair lacing with broken lines and small spotting.
Smell - Rich, but enticing aroma of toasted coconut, milk chocolate, some darker chocolate depth, and a kiss of vanilla.
Taste - Follows the nose. A really fine blend of coconut playing off an array of chocolatey notes. Touches of vanilla add a bit more depth without breaking up that really nice blend of the coconut and Chocolate. Aftertaste finds just a touch of dark chocolate bitterness which helps break up a lot of the sweeter elements as it fades.
Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with low-to-fair carbonation. Smooth, velvety creamy texture makes this an easy drinker, even at 10%, before a semi-dry finish.
Overall - Really fantastic dessert imperial sour. It's really close to drinking the stout equivalent of a Mounds bar. A little rich, but this 8oz pour I got is about right.
