Had on-tap at Burning Barrel Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a Belgian tulip, black in color with cola brown edging. Thin, broken layer of surface suds with a fair ring encircling the outside edge. Lacing is fair with some webbing, lines and small spotting.
Smell - Caramel, toffee, chocolate, and earthen roast.
Taste - Starts off with roasted malt and toffee before a lesser kiss of milk chocolate mid-taste. Cream emerges in the finish. Aftertaste is a bit of tug and pull with the aforementioned flavors, leaning more toward sweet and creamy then I care for.
Mouthfeel - Medium in body with low-to-moderate carbonation. Drinks easy enough before a mostly dry finish. It's good, just not quite on par with a lot of the legendary American porters.
Overall - Solid porter. The flavor doesn't mesh quite as well as some of the top tier porters, but is still nice.
