On tap at the brewery today. This is another odd rendition from this new to me brewery.
The beer pours a fairly dark brown color with fairly decent head retention and light lacing. In the nose I'm picking up a lot of brown sugar, light vanilla and a hint of underlying spice. On the palate, the flavor profile is pretty unusual. There's still considerable brown sugar and light vanilla in this moderately sweet beer, but also something of a smoke flavor, with chocolate and light root beer. There's also noticeable alcohol in the finish, something that seems to be a chronic problem for this brewer. Mouthfeel is medium bodied to full, and alcohol is fairly well integrated into the flavor profile. The alcohol is noticable, but doesn't interfere greatly with the flavor profile.
This is a beer that grew on me the longer it sat in the glass. It's still not a great representation of the style, but it's not awful. If the alcohol were a bit less noticeable, this would be a pretty decent quad.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
