The pour is a brownish amber, clear; the body presents a dark yet clear mahogany color; relatively thick head, light khaki hued with a semi-creamy texture, long lasting and sticky. A truly outstanding aroma; initial note of wet oak and richly toasted malt grains; opens with a fantastic note of figs and dried raisins; toasted oats. The taste brings rich malt sweetness to the palate; figs and raisins; moderately toasted grain base; a slight bitterness with a subdued boozy edge; very mild phenol presence. Heavy body; smooth and sticky; fine alcohol warmth undercurrent.
This fine old ale speciman delivers some outstanding and intriguing sensations to the palate. More interesting is the label note that the beer ages gracefully for 25+ years. Now how they figure that is a question for the age(r)s. As is, this a quite delightful. The puzzle for me is do I contact the barrel house and see if they have some more of these.
ABV: 13.5%; pouring temperature: 55 °F; bottling info: 2022

Pour red tinted brown with a cap of tan foam. Up front right away I encounter caramel, toffee, huge dark fruits, with supporting brown bread and dark nuts in the nose. Taste adds molasses to the caramel and toffee notes. The dark fruit now favors fig more than the rest, though date is strong too, sneaky complex, especially since this is not barrel aged. Feel is smooth, malty, moderately dry, but there is a lingering sweetness that just sits on the palate forever. I would love to age this because I think the flavors would continue to emerge
