Pours a clear brown color and appears near black and opaque in the glass; thin, patchy head yet lasting. Nice spicy grain notes on the nose; tobacco. The taste explodes with notes of figs and dates and elements of tobacco, cherry and licorice, cocoa and mild chocolate; nicely boozy. Heavy body; smooth and slippery; very warming alcohol warmth; lightly sticky.

I'll certainly miss this brewery, one that couldn't survive the financial times of running a small craft brewery. This beer is a great example of what they could do with big beers. It has great depth and complexity and is a joy to kick back and sip as its character develops and expands as the beer warms up. I have a number of other Burns Family beers, mostly single examples. I truly hope I scored a second bottle of this beer. Good stuff.
