another cool grape beer from these guys, pretty much my favorite style right now are these beer/wine hybrids in the wild ale or saison space, so fun and so much to explore here, and this is quite tasty and original, one of the first from them i have encountered on tap. unique in that its a honey based beer to start with, less grain character to it then, a little mead note, which is not the first time one of their beers has taken this approach, i love it! it keeps this light bodied, just beery enough, and lets the grapes be a major influencer not just of flavor but also of texture. a mix of varietals in this pink cloudy fizzy looking brew, kind of a pink lemonade visual here, plus an inch of airy belgian looking head. the nose is tangy from the sangiovese right away, tannic to me, puckery, maybe not quite ripe, but with richer fruit behind it from the cinsault, and then some jammy syrah and petit sirah too, not that each of these can be singled out (at least not by me), but its apparent multiple grape types are at work doing their thing, and with the funky almost cheesy earthy brett profile this has, my mouth waters right up. i get some tart cherry, cranberry, red currant, and purple grape candy fruitiness in the flavor, the grain is real light and way back, the honey is dried out by the ferment but remains evident, floral and really enhancing the fruit, very springy and organic overall, sexy, even with the weirdness and less clean yeast profile. seems lower alcohol than its listed at here, very delicate to drink, highly effervescent and nice and dry to finish, subtle peony, lilac, and rose wine notes, a bit of red raspberry jammy grape character, and then some nice earthy undertones, possible light woodiness, minerals, and faint brine even. really different, lively, and compelling, part of me wishes i could age this, did they bottle it? i think the brett would keep working away on it, maybe tidy itself up slightly, but this is delicious now too, kind of becoming their thing, these funky grape beers, im all in!
edit: maybe slightly better from the can, the conditioning helps the texture, even though it doesnt hold much head. i think the fruit is slightly more well integrated, and the honey pops like crazy, definite mead vibes. really dynamic and unique, their cans look super sharp too!
