sad to hear about the sale of this place, or its impending sale, been a sneaky power player in the farmhouse and wild world in recent years, despite to little fanfare, and i hope things dont change with whoever takes it over. this one is a cool little tart and low alcohol biere de garde type, an amber saison with a personality that goes well beyond its abv, neat to find it on tap, seen so little of this stuff in idaho i was stoked! surprisingly clear, beautiful reddish amber in color, and with an airy big bubble white belgian looking head on it, really pretty. the nose is lightly astringent and tangy but not quite bacterial, the yeast is rustic and lightly estery but nowhere near phenolic. the malt is toasty and nutty, and with the ferment this ends up fairly autumnal to me overall in both aroma and in flavor, graham cracker, red apple, and marzipan in the nose, chestnut, bread crusts, and brown sugar in the flavor, raisin as well, and the yeast brings, coriander, anise, and even a white wine note, quite complex, funky without being bretty, some body for what it is, dry and effervescent, twangy late with subtle clementine character and proofing dough, really pretty compelling, very drinkable, the kind of thing i have come to expect from these guys in terms of both uniqueness and quality, i hope they find a way to keep it going! this is lovely.
