A: Pours an opaque thick viscous jet black in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and faint dark cola brown + dark chestnut brown + garnet red colored highlights. The beer has a four finger tall foamy dark mocha head that slowly reduces to a large patch of medium thick film covering approximately 75% of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of vanilla + coconut over the top of slightly stronger than moderate aromas of roasted + chocolate + dark + caramel malts with a moderate amount of lactose sweetness.
T: Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of roasted + chocolate + dark + caramel malts with a moderate amount of lactose sweetness. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of vanilla + chocolate. Light amounts of roasty bitterness which slowly fades away leaving lingering light to moderate vanilla + coconut flavors.
M: Just shy of full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light hints of alcohol warming in the finish.
O: Drinks pretty easily considering the strength and other than a little warming in the finish, the alcohol is pretty well hidden. For a self-described pastry stout, it was refreshing that this beer is not cloyingly sweet... Decent job of recreating the taste + aroma of a coconut macaroon. Enjoyable.
