16 ounce can into tulip glass, no can dating. Pours dense pitch black color with a 2 finger dense and rocky dark brown bread with awesome retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing and streaming carbonation. Aromas of big dark roasted coffee, molasses, cinnamon, brown sugar, vanilla, dark chocolate, cocoa, light smoke/char/dark fruit. Taste of big dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, molasses, nuts, cinnamon, brown sugar, vanilla, toast, dark bread, wood, peppercorn, pine; light dark fruit, smoke, charcoal, yeast earthiness. Good sized pine/char bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and full body; balanced creamy/silky malts, sticky/resin hops, and chalky roast mouthfeel. Long lingering resin/char drying, with mild astringency. Mild increasing warmth and booze of 10.2% after the finish. Far more bitter than I expected for something labeled as a pastry stout, but for a spiced up imperial coffee stout it's well made. Kind of reminds me of fresh founders breakfast stout on the charred like bitterness combined with coffee flavor.
