Dark brown, robust body with hints of chocolate and caramel. Pronounced, but smooth smoke finish.

On tap at brewery:
(Rated strictly as smoked beer, although my reading of English porter could fit the perceived “base”)
A medium to dark brown, the beer seems fairly clear beyond its light-eating darker tone, perhaps a light haze. Head is a light beige, and you can verify that by the stuff left on the inner wall of the glass (before it fades).
The nose is of a mix of a meat smoker at your local BBQ joint and the salami at your local deli. It is a bit of a “higher note” (more fruity/acidic-leaning) than the classic rauchbiers but along those lines.
Taste has a nice brown ale base - a bit more robust than a Märzen, but not near the classic Schlenkerla Ürbock. The base leans a little towards nutty brown versus toasty brown, which oddly could be the smoke influence being seen as a separate aspect. Speaking of, the smoke brings a lightly smoked meat flavor which works nicely with the base. Feel is medium and is actually fairly smooth, perhaps helped by the fact the smoke isn’t forceful in the taste.
A nice smoked beer. I’m not really getting much of anything I would consider as a modern porter, though the description on this site of an English porter could fit. Regardless, it’s an enjoyable beer.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
