Poured from 16oz tall can into a tulip. The version I have is listed at 6.5%; perhaps the formula has changed since they first brewed it. This is a "New England style IPA double dry-hopped with El Dorado".
Appearance: pours a murky dark-yellow hue with four-plus fingers of frothy, excitable ivory foam. This is one dang heavily carbonated beer; perhaps too much so.
Smell: a bit piquant with a rather herbal hop character. It's rather underwhelming.
Taste: much like the aroma, the flavor here is just off. The hops are a bit herbal and earthy, but mostly have a damp, limp character to them. The beer doesn't exactly seem infected, but what with the big burst of carbonation when I opened the can, perhaps? There is a kind of nice malty sweetness at the end which suggests it's not entirely fermented out, so maybe not?
Mouthfeel: medium body with a huge carbonation and a nice creaminess. This part is at least good.
Overall: like I said, there's enough good here to suggest the beer isn't infected, so perhaps it's just incredibly misguided? Maybe El Dorado just doesn't make for great dry-hopping.
