On tap at the brewpub, served in a heavy goblet.
The body was jet black, fading into cascading bubbles of tan foam. The larger bubbles on the surface had a milky appearance. Sheets of tan lace coated the sides of the glass. Strong head retention.
Pleasant light aroma of chocolate and banana.
Roasted barley and chocolate malt formed the smooth backbone, with a banana yeast ester note in the middle. A dry and earthy char lingered in the aftertaste. It was clean without being cloyingly sweet. It was firmly in Imperial Stout territory, but shared some Dry Stout qualities. Mouthfeel was velvety, body was about the same as chocolate milk. It wasn't overly thick, giving it a clean smoothness perfect for sessioning. At 7.3%, you wouldn't notice any alcohol until it was too late.
Growlers were available of this specialty brew, it was the most expensive at $31. 5 oz. samples were $2, and a goblet was very reasonable around $4.
