"When the Archangel Gabriel foretold the birth of John the Baptist, Zechariah doubted. When he foretold the birth of the Lord Jesus, Mary believed. In these encounters, Gabriel witnessed the ultimate dilemma of every human heart: to believe or to doubt the unseen God. The monks of Mount Angel believe; and they honor Gabriel's double prophecies with their own Belgian dubbel."

375 ml capped bottle. no date, but picked up at the brewery a few weeks ago while in Oregon

pours a chestnut brown in color, with thick creamy off-white colored head. excellent head retention. nice aroma as it warms of bready malt, a touch of earthy spice and a little fig. Similar taste - good, although not as complex as some of the classics in this style. medium bodied, very smooth and creamy mouthfeel.

On tap at the Benedictine. Color is a hazy burnt orange with a moderate head, although it does look rather muddy. The nose is funky pine and cedar, some orange and wheat malt. The taste follows with an orange twang up front that quickly recedes into a Belgian yeast banana and clove accent, some coriander, and another hint of cedar. The body is full, buttery, yet it finishes crisp.

This is a interesting dubbel that is hard to pin down. An experience for sure!
