Even the most charismatic Smugglers have a dark side. This Coffee Stout is brewed in collaboration with Smoking Gun Coffee Roasters of Abbotsford, BC. Black Gold balances bold, smooth and roasty flavours with slight touches of spruce and the added kick of cold brewed and whole bean coffee. This is the beer for good chats and great stories.

This beer was a pleasant surprise. I'm more of a lager, ale, and pilsner guy. Years ago, I tried Guinness and felt that it was way too heavy and bitter for me. During my most recent visit to the liquor store, I picked out some personal favorites and a couple of random new beers to try. Smugglers Trail Black Gold was one of the new ones I picked. Based on my past experience with Guinness, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this beer. But I decided to give it a chance.
Look - I drank this from a tall can, but it reminded me of Coca Cola a bit.
Smell - It had a nice coffee scent without being overbearing.
Taste - I was really impressed with the flavor. It had a noticeable coffee taste with a subtle sweet note to it. It had a well-balanced taste and was not overly bitter.
Feel - I would say it had an average amount of carbonation compared to other beers. It didn't feel heavy compared to Guinness where a pint feels like a meal.
Overall - This was a great beer to drink. I will definitely be buying this again.

Smugglers Trail Caskworks 'Black Gold' coffee stout @ 5.6% , served from a 473 ml can
A-pour is a cola brown from the can to near black in the glass with a small tan head leaving a fine spotty lace along the pint
S-hints of roasted coffee
T-more smokey tasting than roasted for a coffee stout
MF-ok carbonation , medium body
Ov-needs work
