Darkness falls across the land...the midnight hour is close at hand...
"Dark and Smoky"
This one was just released this weekend as another member of their small batch series. Poured from a howler from the taproom.
Appearance - Pours a cloudy chocolate brown with two fingers of tan head.
Smell - smoke, smoked malts, earthy, leafy, and floral hops, dark chocolate, nuttiness, dark fruits (plum and raisin), toffee, earthy yeast.
Taste - Hit right away with the smoke and smoked malts. The earthy, leafy, and floral hops come through next followed by the sweetness from the dark chocolate. The brew then goes into the nuttiness, dark fruits of plum and raisin, toffee, and earthy yeast.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes smooth with the smoked malts, hops, and dark fruits lingering.
Overall - A flavourful brew that utilizes the smoked malts very well. The dark chocolate, hops, and dark fruits act as nice supporting cast members to the brew. Another style done very well by the folks at '88!
