Look - Pours a cloudy, light pastel yellow along with a couple fingers of vividly white head. Lacing leaves behind a pretty and thinly branched pattern.

Smell - Citrus; lemon & orange peel. Belgian yeast, coriander, hops.

Taste - Delightfully balanced. Tart citrus flavor which is compensated with a generous (but not excessive) sweetness. Pleasantly hoppy with a subtle spicy kick at the end.

Feel - Very smooth and crisp. Medium bodied which compliments the fruits and the carbonation helps accentuate the spices and hops.

Overall - Very happy with this beer. Had much more bite than anticipated given the low ABV and is highly sessionable. Eighty Eight has been a breath of fresh air into the Calgary micro scene.

I’m becoming a fan of everything Eighty-Eight Brewing is doing, Alberta was an underserved Micro Brewing scene in Canada and they’ve filled the void admirably in Calgary. This Dry Hopped Citrus White Ale drinks like a modern take on traditional Belgium Wit Beer.

The naturally sweet Mandarina Bavaria Hops in this are to add a sweetness and a complexity on finish, but there is nothing bitter about this Wit Beer. So if you are hesitant to try this because you’re not a hop forward person and are looking for a more traditional Wit Beer set your worries aside. That said it is on the bolder sides for Wit Beers with a ton of sweetness from the Orange Peel as well. It’s also got a great hum of spice thanks to the adequately used Coriander and Pepper, keeping it really balanced.

If you’re a fan of Belgium Wit Beers and want a modern take, try this one for size.

"Dry-hopped Belgian"

Poured from a howler.

Appearance - Pours a cloudy straw with two fingers of bubbly white head.

Smell -belgian yeast, spicy earthy hops, mandarin, orange, pepper, coriander, and grainy malts.

Taste - belgian yeast, mild spicy earthy hops, and mandarin/orange upfront. The coriander, pepper, and grainy malts finish the brew off.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with high carbonation. Finishes smooth with a light creaminess. The yeast, hops, spices, and mandarin/orange linger.

Overall - A refreshing and very sessionable witbier from the folks at '88. All flavours work together to create a flavourful brew!
