Sampling a cold 16oz /473 ml can poured into a tumbler. Picked up at local beer shop. No date stamp on label or can.
The beer pours a black coffee to cola brown color. Thin wispy, dense, beige head of about 1 cm foams up. This foam fades to a thin edging and leaves some scattered lattice on glass after sips or swirls.
Aroma is roast coffee and a little dark chocolate and light sweetness. No hop character and no abv hints at all.
First sip reveals a medium body and fine tingly carbonation with smooth texture.
Flavor is similar to the nose with roasted notes, some mild sweet cocoa and hints of dark coffee too.
Finish is lingering roast note amd here just a faint hit of herbal hop note. But the roast and chocolate is certainly dominant.
Never any abv hints. Beer drinks easy and I enjoy this after the end of a long week at Envirothon in Alberta.

"Vietnamese Coffee"
Poured from a howler from the taproom.
Appearance - Pours a jet cola black with three fingers of tan mocha head.
Smell - roasted malts, cocoa bean, coffee bean, hint of woody aromas, caramel, earthy and leafy hops, and earthy yeast.
Taste - roasted malts upfront then quickly goes into the coffee bean (pleasant dark roasted coffee). The cocoa, woody aromas, caramel notes, and earthy and leafy hops follow next. The brew is finished off by the earthy yeast. The brew is solely dominated by the coffee bean.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes smooth and creamy with the hops and coffee lingering.
Overall - An exemplary stout from '88. The flavours are reminiscent of having a nice strong coffee in the morning. A true standout in the "coffee stout" category. Kudos to '88 for yet another flavourful brew.
