Beer #3 from my 2025 Advent Calendar.....
A- This will take a little time to pour into my glass, as it is heavily carbonated, and the retention of said suds is superb, with the initial pour being super white, about two fingers in thickness (only maybe 75ml poured), and there is a plethora of carbonation columns rising swiftly to the top. The liquid itself is quite hazy, as the style suggested, pale yellow in color, with a hint of golden hue against white light, and the lacing is puffy and clings well to the inside of the glass. Overall a fine looking beer, and the soapiness of the head is impressive indeed.
S- There is a solid hop presence on the nostrils, with plenty of juicy citrus like zest, dry leafy freshness, and typical yeasty, bread malt sweetness in the background to help round things out. Pine needle notes, damp forest and heavy grapefruit/tangerine/lime skins are noted on the finish....quite nice!
T- The flavors are quite good, with all of the above mentioned noticeable on the palate, but to a much lessor degree than the aromas let on....its tasty to a tee though! Plenty of cleansing hop bitterness, with big leafy greens, various citrus rinds (again, grapefruit, lime, tangerine, perhaps pomelo), super refreshing malty astringency, creamy yeast character, and a finish that is just different from what I expected (could it be the Cirta cryo doing this?). Anyhow, this is intense, sweeter than most hazy IPAs but I find the flavor profile overall more approachable than a standard version of the style.
M/O- The body in my opinion would settle somewhere in between light and medium, and my only knock is the heaviness of the carbonation.....they could have gone a little lighter on the CO2, as it is pretty aggressive, and even taking a swig right out of the can gives my mouth way too much foam that I have to chew down a bit......The alcohol is hidden well, providing a high drinkability factor, and would pair well with a spicy Asian or Indian dish to cut through those oily spices. On its' own it holds up well too, and I am quite enjoying this can. Will purchase this again, hopefully locally, but if not, when in Calgary next!
