A new (to me) brewery and visited after the IU / Purdue game today. The beer was pretty solid but really stuck out was the cool vibe with the leather couches and plethora of games that were available for guests / patrons, pretty cool. The staff was really friendly and helpful and the pizza was tasty. There was a unique vibe and I would visit again.

We went on a Friday night and it was about half full. Good size space with lots of community tables. Dog and family friendly. Outdoor seating in the front. It was about half full. The students had left for the summer, so I assume it is busier during the school year. They don’t serve food, but had a food truck out front. I’m guessing they had about 15 beers on tap. Flights were 5 5oz beers for $12. Beers were solid. I enjoyed the American IPA and Coffee Stout.

Portland industrial coffee shop vibe, partly because it is a coffee shop, opening at 8:00 am daily except Sunday (10:00 a.m.), and serving locally-roasted coffee and pastries.
Switchyard’s draft menu of its own beers is extensive and varied, and the servers know the beers. Crowlers can be purchased. A draft cider or two and Glutenberg gluten-free beers complete the beer list. Wine and craft sodas are available.
Students with tablets “studying,” a few unobtrusive televisions playing sports, some small tables and some communal tables, and a view of the brewery add to the vibe. Live music is on offer several times each month.
The good news is dogs (and kids) are allowed, and are regularly on scene. The bad news is, apparently, the dog policy means Switchyard doesn’t have a proper kitchen, serving only the Indiana law-required minimal food offerings, in this case, hot pockets and the like and canned soup. The good news is that The Big Cheeze gourmet grilled cheese food truck is stationed out front from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm daily, and is excellent. February 2019 update: Switchyard’s association with The Big Cheeze has ended, but now rotating food trucks are on scene instead. You can also bring in your own food.
A couple of blocks north of the Monroe County courthouse square, Switchyard is the latest and a welcome addition to the growing collection of local breweries, brewery outposts and excellent pubs scattered around Kirkwood and downtown BTown.
