Containing lactose, this presents a full finish that lacks a biting bitterness.

This is not the same beer as their New England IPA. There's lactose included here and the ABV is significantly different. The milk solids may contribute to reasonable pours which emptied two twelve ounce cans into a clear glass liter mug. The off-white head was short-lived. The liquid is dull apricot-amber in color. Muted hops and malt greet the nose. The taste is not one for a lover of traditional IPAs. The lactose, admittedly not unbearable, even for those that despise milkshake IPAs for valid reasons, isn't intolerable here. It certainly knocks down a bit of the hoppy bite, but adds a little smoothness, however blandly. Not bad, but with most milkshake beers, the body seems artificial and not really contributing to the drinking experience. The hop bite is good and clean, maybe in spite of the lactose. That really salvages this. Like most IPAs that include lactose, there's a peculiar chalky aspect to the body. Also, like most milkshake IPAs, there's no glass lacing. Workhorse does many things right, but put this in the why bother category.
