Good viscosity on the pour; small pieces of coconut swirl around the glass alongside beige bubbles of foam.
The nose really puzzled me on this until I re-read the label. The truffle component is very evident, with those savory, earthy, almost rubbery notes coming forward right out of the gate. Following closely is dark chocolate, with a soft yet evident aroma of toasted coconut balancing everything in the background.
Salted dark chocolate all day. The truffle isn't nearly as evident as on the nose, but the salinity is definitely there, and balances the richness from the chocolate-dipped coconut flavors. Continues to hit that sweet spot as it approaches around 50 degrees.
Mouthfeel is awesome. Medium-full, very soft on the palate but with a low carb that doesn't keep it from feeling too syrupy. Finishes mildly bitter and salty, with a pleasant ethanol warmth on the finish.
Overall, this is one of those beers that if I didn't know what was in it, I'm not sure that I would've enjoyed it as much as I did. But knowing exactly what went into the beer and that lightbulb going off when associating familiar aromas and flavors that I couldn't previously pinpoint was a really fun experience. Additionally, truffle isn't for everyone. It is distinctly unique, a little funky, and not necessarily something that people would unanimously agree goes in beer. However I really felt that this was very well-executed, and it was a fun one to experience.
