Poured at fridge temp. Pours a very dark brown with no head. The nose is fantastic. Deep and intense layers of chocolate and vanilla, with a hint of coconut. Wow. A bit of maple comes through a bit as well. Not a ton of complexity, but what's there is amazing.
The taste is really interesting and very good. The tea comes through in a really nice way. Also getting truffle, vanilla, maple, and some brown sugar. It is sweet, but I don't find it overwhelmingly sweet. Super thick mouthfeel. Overall, a really interesting barleywine.

Headless cola black with red edges and a sticky residue filming the glass.
Despite my lack of respect for most of this brewery's bigger beers, I was thankful to find that it seemed like the Earl Grey did not overwhelm this barleywine, and that the base was assisted to an acceptable degree by the coconut and vanilla. Still, it is Eighth State after all, and so it was unsurprisingly quite sticky sweet overall.
