Light haziness in a generally yellow-gold that resembles the flesh of cut apricot (SRM 3-4). The shallow, white head is fine and quickly faints. Within moments, all that is left is a coating of lace and glowing gold beer within a Spieglau IIPA glass.
The aroma is fresh, with mild pineapple, followed by unpleasant catty notes. Pine attempts to take over, while warmth dulls the whole effect, making it all rather muddy.
Bitterness is high, even for the category, though still within range of my expectations. Sweetness helps, while fruitiness and pine are displaced by pineapple and pine resin. The finish is long and moderate. Slight warmth brings light astringency.
A medium body with the texture of smooth silk. Alcohol is as expected. Modest fine carbonation leads to a somewhat dry finish.
This is a simple NEIPA. It is well done and suited for relaxing before dinner, however, there is nothing particularly special that would overcome the cattiness.
