16oz tallboy can from a Lester Cup six-pack purchased at Whistle Punk.
Poured into a sniffer, this was a watery black exiting the can and left no head. Can kinda felt like a low-fill, and it looks like one in the glass. Unlike the previous beer from this sixer, no lace at all, even after swirling the shifter to and fro violently.
Nose is initially of faint, raisiny dark fruits and weak dark malts. As it warms, the fennel comes out to play a bit, but the nose is still somewhere between merely weak and anemic.
Initially, vaguely and distantly suggestive of dark fruit, once it warms up, the taste wasn't much more expressive. Low intensity roasted dark malts give a vaguely chocolaty flavor that is paired with a raisiny dark fruit flavor that's pretty low in the mix. Once warmed, there's a little bit of black licorice-like flavor from the fennel, but, again, it's low in the mix, less so in the taste than in the nose. The Lactose gives a vaguely milky taste, but not much else.
Thin, watery mouthfeel.
So far, Grain Shed beers haven't done much for me. I see them as more a foodie destination. This beer doesn't change that opinion.
