Comes in a green half-liter bottle with a portrait of Fleet Admiral Alexander Vasiliyevich Kolchak on the front. The back label provides a brief biography of our hero, who fought in the Russo-Japanese War and World War I, and played a big part in the modernization of the Russian Navy. OK, fine, whatever - but why would a brewery in land-locked Irkutsk (actually on the shores of Lake Baikal, where there is very little Russian naval presence - and no other country's navy) dedicate one of its beers to a navy guy? Chalk it up to another one of life's little mysteries. Sugar and rice are ingredients. Bottled 9/5/03, I opened mine on 10/12/03.
Poured a nice deep clear reddish gold under a creamy three-fingered head that faded surprisingly quickly. No lace, no collar, just little islands of foam on the surface of the liquid. The nose is sweet, with a touch of metallic hops. The mouth is medium-bodied, with medium carbonation. The taste is a bit harsh with metal, lacking much malt to smooth things over. There's a definite tinniness to this brew. It's not horrible, but seems unfinished, or at least unpolished.
