not sure about this one as a mexican lager. sure it drinks mellow, is well enough made, and has most of the right characteristics, but its decidedly packed to the brim with vienna malt, drinks sweeter and heavier as a result, and really doesnt refresh the way i want this style to every single time. furthermore, its pretty darn strong north of 6% abv, which really slows down a beer that in my mind is meant to be drank in high volume and with some rapidity. i really do like the flavor, the earthiness and light toast of the grain, the honey sweetness it has, and even the lightly metallic minerality that comes out here, but its more than i need or want in a mexican lager, and it becomes a bit heavy when it warms up. i like the yeast here quite a lot, and think they did a nice job on the fermentation. maybe in the winter this would be a nice alternative to what we are used to in the style, but even now in the autumn it feels like more grain in the glass than is necessary. i wouldnt be surprised if they dialed it back on maltiness and strength in future batches, especially with the soccer field here, they are going to want something lighter and more easy drinking...
