Pours a darker, golden amber in color, looks roughly akin to a brown ale.

Off-white head with decent duration and lacing.

Very good nose: Lightly hoppy, and with subtler notes of base (“cereal grain”) malts, a touch of Vienna and plenty of Rye.

Lighter and fairly lively on the palate, and just a touch sweet, but with excellent drinkability. Malts carry through on the palate from the initial impression made in the aromatic aspect, upon first decanting.

I might prefer a bit more carbonation in a beer like this, but it is already in the lighter side for the style.

By comparison to the nose, the Rye character is a bit less accentuated in the full drink. But overall it’s well-balanced and easy drinking.

Appearance: Pours a clear, medium orange color with a strong white head. SRM of 10-12. (3.75)

Aroma: Moderate aromas of brown bread, rye bread, caramel and Vienna malt. (3.75)

Flavor: Moderate to mild flavors of rye bread, brown bread crust, bread spice and Vienna malt. Malty, and mildly sweet. (4.00)

Feel: Medium-bodied, moderate carbonation and leans smooth. Fairly clean. (4.25)

Compared to Sam Adams Oktoberfest 9/22/22: Pours a lighter color, milder aromas. More rye bread and Vienna malt. Less cinnamon roll, vanilla icing, cherry. Milder flavors, similar body.

Compared to Left Hand Oktoberfest 9/22/22: Pours a similar appearance, milder aromas. More rye bread and Vienna malt. Less sweet bread malt, caramel.

Overall: This one drinks pretty good for a rye beer. Nice rye and bread spice flavors. Malty, but not too sweet, which is nice. I think I'd classify it as a rye beer rather than an Oktoberfest or Dunkel. Definitely not a dunkel as listed on BA. Pretty decent stuff though for a Vienna or rye lager. (Rating: 4.00)

16oz can. Can bottom is stamped 'CANNED ON 08/19/21'.
Slightly cloudy, deep gold colored body. One finger of white head quickly retreats to be a thin cap.
Aroma of rye and barley malts and floral hops.
Taste follows with the slightly spicy and dark bread malts, with soft herbal and floral hops. This balance extends into the aftertaste.
Medium mouth feel. Good carbonation.
The rye note stays through the entire flavor profile. Smooth and ultimately dry. Good for repeated quaffs.
