cool name, fine beer, working my way through the first round of boss rambler beers to hit idaho, all have been solid and fun, none have totally floored me so far. this is in the west coast tradition and is objectively well made, but its also pretty darn familiar, like its simcoe, mosaic, and centennial, a far cry from bringing something new to the table, but that said, not every beer has to be challenging or a learning experience, and this is a prime example of an almost utilitarian brew, no frills, but good top to bottom. i like the lesser malt profile, its simple and clean, balancing but not by being sweet or full of body, and this seems contemporary more than classical, even with the bitterness. the mosaic leads the way in the nose for me, the centennial more in the flavor. pineapple juice from the can and a little lemongrass and gin in the nose, a hint of dried mango slice, fresh white pine, and high alpha bitterness in the taste, with the bitterness starting early but never getting aggressive enough to be considered harsh, and its obvious there is a big dry hop here too, the best of both worlds in a very drinkable package. lighter medium body, clean ferment, the technical execution is nice, and the bitterness and hop intensity are nice for colder weather. not the most memorable ipa in the game, but i am sure i will drink my share of this one. glad to have these guys in the market here.
