Picked up a couple of 4-packs of this recently at Spyglass, at $15 per.... Sure it's quite fresh, as this new bier just dropped in the last 2 weeks...
Enjoying a couple out in The 'Zebo on a lovely Sunday afternoon... Poured into a Willi Becher style glass, it's a rich copper color, with a very slight bit of haze. Has minimal carbo within, and a thin, fine, off-white layer of foam up top. The head was initially a lovely, 3/4" dollop of suds before ebbing back. Leaves some nice, wispy lacing on the glass. Nose has semisweet notes of bread and toast, along with some earthy, floral action. The body is decently medium, with a fairly smooth feel.
Flavor picks up where the aroma left off, namely being semisweet on the palate. Has a touch of breadyness plus light caramel and toasty malt. Hopping is floral and earthy, being a hint more pronounced than other Maibocks I've had recently, like Verdant from Kelsen. There's also a suggestion of spiciness in the clean finish. A solid example of the style overall.... Prost!!
