Have had this numerous times in the past few weeks, both on draft at Spy and from bottles, such as this. A 16oz bottle costs $16.00 at the brewery....
It pours jet black, like crude oil - completely opaque. No chance at seeing the carbo within, but up top is a thin, wispy layer of fine, mocha-hued bubbles. Lacing is a bit light, though. Aroma is quite inviting, with dark choco, light vanilla and espresso mixing with some subtle bourbon notes. Body is easily medium-plus, and the feel is smooth and silky.
Taste is semisweet and rich. Has more dark choco, espresso and vanilla, along with some light coffee action. The choco aspect reminds me of the choco syrup I had as a kid called Bosco. There are hints of bourbon lurking about in the background as well. As for hopping, it's pretty much not evident to me. This is quite solid, and has been on my drinking list often lately. Cheers!
