Standard brown half liter bottle with a beautifully designed multi-colored label depicting a couple of viking ships docked on the shore in front of a great Russian fortress. Rice and sugar are ingredients. Bottled on 6/24, I opened it on 8/4/03.
Pours a nice deep clear gold under big and bubbly, but slightly contoured head that stuck around for a while and left some decent lace. The nose was metallic, while the mouth was prickly and a bit on the light side. The intial taste was grainy (there's the rice!) with a touch of tin. This was chased by a bit of malty sweetness, finished off by a hoppy bitterness that couldn't completely avoid the metallic. The aftertaste retained this slightly tinny bitter, but faded into a fairly pleasant bite. Maybe I've just had too many Russian beers, but I actually rather liked this one.
