I finally have a chance to review a bottle of that awful stuff I got on tap at the bowling alley in Tomsk last summer. Much better now. Standard brown bottle with a sharp if not imaginative multi-colored label featuring a bearded man with arms folded (no beer in hand!) above the name. Sugar is an ingredient. Best before 8/16/04, I opened it on 3/21/04.
Pours a clear bubbly gold under a big two finger yellowish white head with some body and a few lace spots on the glass. The nose features both malt and metallic hop. The mouth is of medium body and quite well carbonated. The opening is fairly smooth barley, with a touch of sour, particularly as it warmed. This is followed by a pleasant mild hoppiness. The aftertaste is more sweet than bitter. Certainly drinkable.
