Well, I didn't expect much. Standard brown half liter bottle with black foil around the neck and a green and black label in line with the usual Kupecheskoye standard. Sugar and rice are ingredients. Best before 8/31/04, I opened it on 4/3/04.
Pours a clear pale gold under a 1.5 finger white head that settles to 1/2 finger, but then stays pretty much to the bottom of the glass. Remarkable for a Russian strong. Despite the longevity, there is no lace. There is also very little nose, with maybe just a hint of sweet mild malt. The mouth is very prickly and medium-bodied. The taste is very mild, without the usual acidic metallic harshness of Russian strong. There's even a touch of cherry sweetnes to go with the malt. The finish features a mild metallic hoppy bitterness, but that fades to leave a pretty sweet aftertaste. This sure doesn't taste like a Russian strong. Not great by any means, but for the style, remarkably smooth.
