I got a tall boy can of this beer off the single shelf from the brewery whilst in the area for work. It poured a clear rich amber with off white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent had common doppelbock beer notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with sweet german malt base with sharp German hop and boozy presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.

Dark brown at the top, to a lighter acorn at the bottom, a short khaki blanket rests above it all, dying off fairly quickly to a fine chain.
Sweet caramel meets a toasty pine wood bitterness, bringing the palate more towards a barleywine-esque orange lozenge territory, with a touch of licorice in the exhale. The aftertaste does have a good hint of medium-dark breadiness, but it only leaves me wanting it more up front as the main event.
The medium body has a firm froth and finishes chewy yet semi-dry, coming across as a little too strong, even though the ABV is right in the appropriate range.
A bit disappointing for one of my favorite styles, translating more as a slightly lighter American barleywine than the sweet and bready medium to dark malt showcase that I love.
