La Sitgetana Craft Beer

My rather modest “vibe” rating is an attempt at objectivity. I actually loved it: on my visits, La Sitgetana had a quiet vibe, welcomingly open and serving good beer in the middle of the afternoon (a craft beer emporium being open at, say, three in the afternoon is all too rare a phenomenon in the Iberian peninsula). The place has about a dozen of its own concoctions on tap, all around 4-7% ABV, including a chewy porter, several IPAs, a gose, and a couple of English-style bitters. The rye IPA is outstanding, and the porter gets high marks too. A few hot dishes are sold; I had a tasty plate of chicken curry with rice.

It’s about a 20-minute walk from the Sitges train station, and is also served by the L1 city bus. Like many urban breweries, it’s in a lackluster strip of warehouses and wholesale markets, but is equipped with a variety of seating, including a beer-garden setup on the tarmac out front. The proprietors are very hospitable, and justifiably proud of their product. In my book, this is a welcome brief respite from Sitges’s trademark beach scene.
