Step into fall! The traditional Brown ale highlights English caramels malts. Notes of toffee, raisin, chocolate and coffee balanced with subtle herbaceous hops.

Served on tap in a pint glass at Cincinnati’s Turf Club restaurant.
Look: Dark brown, very little head — just a slight foam ring, and a little bit of island floating foam. Just the slightest bit of lacing.
Nose: Slight roasted malt. What’s there smells nice, but there’s not much else there.
Taste: Malt forward, a hint of coffee and a hint of smoke, in the attack. The finish starts out with a little bitterness but then, unfortunately, turns sour. I'd give the taste a higher number except for the sourness at the end of the finish, which lingers unpleasantly and is uncharacteristic of an English Brown Ale.
Mouthfeel: Medium, adequate carbonation.
Overall: Apart from the sourness at the end, this would be a very drinkable, if not outstanding, English Brown. I wondered at first if there was contamination in this keg or this brewing of the beer; my experience has been in that case, though, that the sourness permeates throughout the tasting — not just at the end of the finish. This beer is from a good brewery — I very much enjoy several other of their beers; this one, however isn't their best offering.
