Floating Barn Pale Ale pours into my glass slightly hazy, and more pale than expected. It's a pale amber color, a little darker than ripe hay. The head is cloudy, bone white, and lasting.
First up are aromas of toasted grain and soda crackers. These combine nicely with the smell of fresh baked bread, creating a malt aroma that is both delicate and present thanks to the lightly toasted grains. The center gives me hints of lemon zest and a just noticeable aroma of lemon juice. The finish gives hints of pacific northwest hops combined with just a little bit of earthiness.
Taking a sip, Floating Barn's flavors are delicate and crisp. Flavors of soda cracker and lightly toasted grain combine to give malt flavors not too far off from the flavors of caramel and nuttiness you might find in similar beers. Flavors of lemon peel come through in the center combinint with a faint, but notable, honey like sweetness. The finish is gentle in its bitterness, helping keep decent balance to the beer's overall flavor profile.
Its a wonderfully crisp, delicate, and well balanced pale ale. The flavors are present without feeling the need to smack my palate around making their presence known.
