I wanted to love this vanilla porter but just couldn't. Smell was good, lots of vanilla but the pour which was generating that aroma was mediocre. It did look quite dark and felt nice and thick but the vanilla seemed to strong and slightly artificial. I might be a snob on vanilla as I buy the beans and make my own generally, however this was a solid but not great Porter in my opinion.

 

 

 

Dark brown appearance with hints of amber. Off white head. Aroma was light roasted coffee with hint of vanilla, rather mild. Taste followed the aroma, malts were foward with very little bitterness. Felt okay, a little thin. Overall an enjoyable beer, albeit rather mellow.

I am trying this beer off the tapper at The Daily Growler in Powell, Ohio as part of a six sample flight. It poured an opaque dark with off white head that is leaving some lace. The scent had vanilla bean and subtle roast notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with vanilla latte bean presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

Deep brown color, finger thick head, fair retention.
Subtle vanilla notes, sight bitterness in the finish.
