A three-inch, creamy, dark chestnut head morphs to a rocky one inch, while leaving a thick webbing of lace on a PBGC American Porter Pint Glass. The beer is very dark brown (SRM 35). Deep red garnet highlights are revealed along the edges.
Rich mocha is prominent up front, with deep roasted malt. There is a hint of coconut, while warmth reveals home-baked pumpernickel bread. Brown sugar, charcoal, and vanilla are also prevalent.
The flavor opens with light bitterness that is slightly higher than the sweetness. Strong cashews lead to mild espresso and Baker's chocolate. The finish is long and modest, with mild bitterness. Warmth builds the bitterness, while adding fresh dried figs and barely perceptible mint.
The light body and silky texture become creamy with warmth. Light carbonation and alcohol as expected.
This beer is just right while winding down after work out on the deck during a spectacular, late Spring afternoon.
