what can one even say about something this ambitious?! i mean, almost 50% of this is malbec grapes, but the rest of it is a new england ipa, and at 13% abv! the beers in here are life changing, and even though their hoppy stuff, for me at least, lacks the refinement of their other beers, its hard not to be blown away by something this original, especially in this day and age where everything is trending samey, hoppy styles more than any other. this is deep red from all the fruit, a burgundy color, hazy too, and a little less head than i wanted to see from the tap, but great presentation as always here at the brewery. the hops somehow are at the same level as all these grapes in the nose, bitter and earthy, a spiciness too, and a woodsy element, pine is an interesting note with the sweet, cherry forward grapes, but i think i like it, high minerality too, some tannins, and some warming alcohol giving this an almost holiday time vibe. tons of fruit in the taste, blackberry, robust red wine with some sugar to it, almost a port essence, light mulling spice, and then a juniper note from the hops and some greenness. i wish it had less bitterness, there is a bit of a clash, which has come up in some of their other hoppy beer too, more dry hop, less boil hops would improve the balance. grain is really out of the mix here, i dont taste much of it at all, the fuller body seems more from the fruit than the malt somehow. long lasting grape flavor is excellent, the part i like the best here, and the booziness is enjoyable too, slows me down, allowing this to warm up, which it does well. i dont need all the hops here to be honest, but i appreciate the effort and the uniqueness. these guys are blowing my mind right now, there is nothing like this in the world!
